Internet and Network browsing problem

By jtpaderes ·
hello guys! just to ask you if you have an idea or a recommendation 'bout my problem. I have small network in our company, and sharing almost 15 computers in with internet connection. I designed 2 servers because our ISP in our place presently has apoor connection when an ordinary dial-up is being shared. Now my problem, is anybody here has an idea of internet sharing? Presently, I am using a proxy server/connection. The platform that I am using both in server and workstation is only Win98.
When I ping my 2 server my two servers, it has an activity, so its means that the connection to the server is ok.

Another problem is, when I use a 10 base HUB, the browsing/sharing of my computers are ok, but when I transfer them to a 100 base Switch (Surecom), I have this problem in browsing, especially when I open them simultaneously, a flashlight occur when I double click the Network Neighborhood. I also put an IP address individualy.

Need your help guys. Thanks..

To tell you the truth, you should contact your ISP to get a new ADSL connection. The more you connect to ADSL the more it slows you down. So somewhere around 40Mb download speed or higher. This will cost you a bit more though. You need a strong server and a hub to connect to ethernet card to each computer, there is no special style of connection actually. Call your ISP to get more informaion on how to do this.

I agree with answer # 1. Get a DSL connection. Use a switch to connect the clients to the server and implement Proxy server. [the proxy server will allow all clients to connect without to much of a bandwith loss]. A 768 bps down 128 bps up from yourphone company @ $60.00 / month and up should solve your "slow connections".

The reason you have problems browsing with 100BaseT is you pin/wiring schema.
Be careful to use the published EIA568-B scheme.
Pins -> Wire
1 Orange Stripe
2 Orange
3 Green Stripe
4 Blue
5 Blue Stripe
6 Green
7 Brown Stripe
8 Brown

Ethernet only uses pins 1,2,3,6. But 100BaseT needs the twisting of the pairs AND the wires for impedence.

And as the ones before stated, a switch (100mbps) is better than a hub (100mbps).

And IDSL is better than ADSL.
