Is Oracle the way to go?

By jfholland ·
I am a newbie to Oracle. How much can it boost my career. Over the years, I have been a trainer, analyst, and presently a project manager.

Is Oracle the way to go?

It actually depends on your current Certifications and where you want to go with them. If you want the MCSE, go with SQL Server 7 (it's not expiring). As far as the uses, SQL is more of a small business to mid-range corporate data server. Oracle is a little better for the larger Corporate Wan database.
Now Oracle can be run on different OS's. Some run in on NT to interface with their domain security. Some run it on Unix for better performance.
But either way, Oracle can be a MAJOR asset to you certifications because so many companies run a "mixed" environment.
Database knowledge or admin. abilities are highly desired. It'll also give you better insight when planning the next "big one".

Hi, oracle will allow you to leverage the booming field of data administration, analysis and data warehousing. As companies refine their skills in data mining, there will be continued need for people who can analyze (including troubleshooting), recompile and safely store data. As a project manager, you would better understand the relationship between data planning and project completion. Oracle would also open up new training avenues for you if that's what you wanted and it would demand your skills as an analyst; you could also (later)explore the relationships between oracle and SQL. So, yes, it can boost your career by focusing your current skills.
