ISO CD Burn :To boot or not to boot?

    Locked

    by gerry grandis ·

    Hello….
I have a ? for you. I downloaded under my new enterprise account a copy of MS 2003 Server SP@ X86 ISO and then burned a copy CD to boot up with.
The problem is : The boot CD will not boot my target server I setting up.
How can I boot up this TARGET ISO just created?
Do you have instructions if I proceed booting off another O/S platform?
In my case I have a working 2008 R2 server platform that I want to replace withe 2003 version non-license (evaluation copy).
If I view the CD content you see the Auto and/program files listed -Ready to go you would think..Why can’t I boot off the CD a start a fresh install.
you know If did something wrong in the burn process (Using InfrareRcorder)
    Pls Advise

What did you use to burn the ISO here?

Most times you need to use a Program to turn a ISO into a Bootable Disc so something like Nero Express will do where chose Disc Image or Saved Project and then burn it to the Optical Media not as an ISO but as the Expanded Files.

Well you are right on getting the right software to expand the existing files from the it’s native ISO bundle. Per you help, I was able to find a free utility program (Mind you i took 5 product search attempts on my part) to find Adlsoft/Uncompressor. Which when downloaded and installed, I was able to expand the ISO files into a temp folder YES!
So now I “THINK” I need to install a copy of Nero 6.0 (Nero 4 doesn’t work on my PC) and then in turn run the CD burn (with the Boot check mark) enabled to create a bootable CD which Nero 6 can perform as a built in function on this particular version. Is this correct?
does this sound about right ? Your thoughts ….

Yep Nero 6 will turn a ISO into a Usable Disc.

There is a program called ISO Magic that could be used instead of Nero.

        http://www.magiciso .com/

Just remove the space to get a working URL. 😉

ImgBurn (Image Burn) is FREE and by far the easiest to use

there is no need to ever have to pre-expand an iso to burn it on a disc, as long as the iso is already bootable… 75 character max… hooey

starting with vista & se7en (and i’m guessing with 2008 r2 also) just like all install disc, you can delete, create and format partitions with the install disc prior to doing the install. vista/se7en round off the partition sizes different than kernel 5 systems. (xp x86, xp x64 & server 2003) you can install vista/se7en in a partition created with a kernel 5 (or earlier) system but you can’t install an older system in a partition made with v/se7en install disc, and i’d bet 6 bits that 2008 r2 is a kernel 6 level operating system. worst case, you have to delete and repartition your h/d with the 2003 disc you made OR do like a lot of us and use something like GParted (freeware) or some other 3rd party s/ware to do it first. just some food for thought, in case the partition was created with the 2008 r2 install disc.
btw – i think moneysoft… i mean microsoft did this to discourage dual booting and/or lightly push everyone towards the new and improved product line they think they’ve developed.

i was serious about imgburn, a 4 year old could use it,
