IT's Million Dollar Babes

By _Damian S_ ·
"The million dollar babe award is about recognising women in IT who run multi million dollar technology businesses."

The inaugural winners have been announced, and just quietly, some of them are absolute hotties!!

Check out the award winners here... www.itmillion.com

This led to some interesting discussions while I was onsite today - do girls (and IT girls in particular) really get offended by the phrase "Million Dollar Babes"?

Personally I think that just because you appreciate someone's beauty doesn't mean you don't also appreciate that they have a brain and know how to use it.

What do others think?

Who presents this award?

by CharlieSpencer In reply to IT's Million Dollar Babes

I have a hard time believing any reputable business or technology organization would present an award with this questionable name.

Looks like an excuse to sell calendars to me.

Some fairly important organisations

by _Damian S_ In reply to Who presents this award?

According to the sponsors page, this award is supported by the following organisations:

AWISE (Australian Women in IT and Sciency Entity, Inc.)
AIIA (Australian Information Industry Association)
WiT (Women in Technology)

Looks to be an award by women, for women, to increase the profile of women in IT.

I don't know about over there, but here in Australia there is a real push to get girls interested in IT. Perhaps this award is part of that push?

I'm a guy, and I certainly would be offended by that phrase.

How about "Million Dollar Boy Toys"? Do we like the sound of that?

yep, you are trolling

How about if it was "IT's Million Dollar Hunks" which would translate more closely to Babes than "boy toys" would... This would also help to break the stereotype that IT blokes are all glasses wearing skinny geeks...
