Join a Domain "The network path could not be found." Error

By nassosg ·
Hello,

I have a windows xp sp2 machine in a private network with an ip address of a 10.10.xxx.xxx
That machine also has a public ip address of 129.120.xxx.xxx
I am trying to join a domain controller which is located outside of the private network with a public ip address of 129.120.xxx.xxx
Both sites are interconnected.
When I try to join the (w2k3) domain on the xp xlient, I get the login screen for a user name and paswd, (This also tells me that it can see the domain controller). I can also do an nslookup and ping that domain controller succesfully.
However I cannot see it under windows networking and I get the following error.
"The network path could not be found."
Google has been much help for me, since most posts are out of date or deal with windows 2000 stuff.
I am pretty sure that it is a DNS or firewall issue.
Any experts that might be able to help?

Thank you in advance,

Nassos G.
