Keyboard not working

By ksvijayb ·
Hi,
I have a compaq DESKPRO desktop computer. The problem with it is that when connected with the compaq keyboard, only the function keys, the num lock, caps lock, ENTER keys are working. The other keys like the numercial and alphabetical ar e not working.

Any inputs on these?

Start by shutting down and swapping a different keyboard.
It is very possible for some keys to function, and others to not work.

Then, you need to check if the keyboard map files have been deleted or changed.

Hi,
I have done all you have mentioned. The desktop has a power on password. In order to enter into the system, I have to key it. But due to this I am not able type the password.

Any other views?
thanks...

I don't think that you need access to BIOS if you change the keyboard. But if you can't bypass this step open the case of the computer and reset the CMOS. Read about this on your motherboard manual or remove gently the battery, for 1min. Put it backand try access BIOS.

Your keyboard has run its course. It's time to replace it. You can get a nice keyboard with many functions, cd-rom control and internet keys for around $25.00
