    Locked

    by searchme1234 ·

    Hello,
I am Vipul. I have recently bought a new HCL computer with 2.4 HT processor. It also has a LAN card with it. I am using Red Hat Fedora Core-4. I downloadedc the driver for the LAN card from the internet & installed it, but when my system boots it does not activate the LAN card. What should I do in order to start/activate the LAN card at boot time.
    Kindly let me know.
    My e-mail id is : searchme1234@yahoo.com

    Thanks

If you are using the graphical interface, locate the network configuration section from the Start – Network Configuration menu or similar. It has an option to activate the network interface manually and the selected option stays as a boot time function.

If you want to use the command prompt, assuming that eth0 is your network interface, the command

      ifconfig eth0

will show the status of the interface, including whether it is UP – look at the line starting with

      UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST

If the word UP is not there, you can issue the command:

      ifconfig eth0 up

All things being equal, the network interface should start.

to start on boot-up go to /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 and set the onboot= option to yes.

after you make this change to the ifcfg-eth0 file then you can start the interface via service network start

        hi

i am also having the same problem with my laptop. it stays online for at least 5 min then disconnects. then goes online again.

i was informed by my provider to have my lan card checked… could be grounded.

but i want to have a second opinion.

any help tips would be appreciated.

        thanks.
