Laptop Keys Not Working

By c.simmons ·
Here is what happended in a nutshell. I have an Averatec 6200, that has worked fine, with the exception of minor things. I have a password setup on my log in and enter it everytime to log into WINXP. I turned on the laptop today and attempt to input the password but only get the little Windows Hand when placing the cursor over the password input area. Have tried FN key in combo with every other key and I still cannot input the password.

Any ideas: Calvin

Laptop keyboard not working on an Averatec 3300

by schroede.r In reply to Laptop Keys Not Working

I'm having the same problem with an Averatec 3300
laptop i'm trying to fix for my pastor. When I hit any key
on the keyboard with exception to the Fn key it locks up
the trackpad. A reboot will enable the trackpad but the
keyboard still will not work. I've tried replacing the
keyboard but it did not help. also unhooked the trackpad
but the keyboard still will not work. I'm trying to do a new
install of xp pro but the system will not let it start from
the cd. or a floppy. And sense the keyboard does not
work I can't get into the bios to make any changes. Please
let me know if you find a fix. and I will do the same.
Thank you
Russ Schroeder

Have you tried an external keyboard to get into the BIOS?

by w2ktechman In reply to Laptop Keys Not Working

that would be a good start. Check the BIOS settings and see if it somehow disabled. Alternately, it may be the keyboard itself that is the issue.

any other i/o devices (mouse?) attached?

by sgt_shultz In reply to Laptop Keys Not Working

can you get into BIOS? (does the keyboard work before windows loads)
does it work in safe mode?
if so, how do things look in Device Manager?
