Let's brainstorm the perusability/navigability of this site, shall we?

By AnsuGisalas ·
I think we all agree that the low navigability is hurting forum activity; people are naturally still adapting to the new look and function, but I think the difficulty in getting an overview of what's going on in big discussions means people have less time and energy left over for actually contributing.
One thing I did just now with the Official Feedback thread was to put it to display all, collapsed, and browser at 70% zoom. That worked kinda-sorta, but it's hard on the eyes, and the collapsed view is annoying, due to reload times.
If it's possible to add a new view type, what should it be like?
How should it handle the thread and how should it handle the posts?
I think it would be neat if it could be made so that the thread structure is displayed alongside the posts view; so that you see the post you're at; and you see the posts title highlighted in the thread structure depicted next to the post view.
Should have individual scrolling bars for each, so one can scroll slowly through the post view, or fast through the thread view...
Would that be good for y'all too? And/or what else?

(sorry for the condescending "shall we?" but it had to be in the form of a question...)

Full site? Forums only?

I agree with your comments, and you did not even have to put on "shall we?"
It would seem the title does not need to be in the form of a question it just has to have a question mark at the end of the line.

There's more than the forums? :0
Sorry, yeah, just forums, for now.
You know, today we take Berlin - tomorrow, Nantucket.

I think they heard that one already.
They could put a disclaimer on the "new view" to say that it takes up more screen space than [whatever minimum they have in mind now]... maybe it's optimised to be netbook friendly or something? Anyway, the hunter-killer view won't then have to be for netbookers...

Training issue

by oldbaritone In reply to Let's brainstorm the peru ...

As I get a little more familiar with the new look, I'm finding that it's at least as easy, and in some cases easier to get to places. One click will do what used to take two or three.

Today, I can find some of my "regular spots" easier than I could yesterday.

Let's all "give it a few days" for us to become more familiar, before deciding what the new look "really needs." I'm beginning to change my mind already about what would be most useful.

It's a training issue for all of us.

a return of Print/View All. Expanded is ok, but Print/View All was way better, and for more than just reading.

Example? I have a copy of one of the Evoloution vs. Creationism threads in Word. Copied and pasted from Print/View All, little reformatting was needed. It's 500+ pages. I can't imagine ever doing the same with 'Expanded'. And most of those monster, Off-Topic discussions were well worth copying and keeping. :^0
