You need the M'Board Makers SATA Drivers for Nix or a Distro that will support the Hardware interface to the SATA Drive/s.

What helped me, it was a BIOS config part near SATA options and switching "NAtive mode" to "compatibile". (Compaq Proliant with sata disks)

First u check which make of sata interface you r using, please check the mother board drivers.
genrally you will get mother board drivers for windows, but in that make info will be there based on that you can search drivers over net.
download the sutable drivers & u burn the bootable CD GNU linux with the downloaded drivers.

Use the command "linux dd"

type "linux dd' and enter the mode before OS install(either text or Grap.mode), after locate your sata driver file and enter...after that plz go ahead as per the instruction...
you will done...
