Linux "Ipconfig" command?

By TobeJ ·
What is the command that gives the same result as ipconfig in 2000 / XP?

I am having trouble getting to the internet, but I can ping the DNS servers etc... I want to see what my settings are.

New to Linux / Red Hat.

Tx

Toby

free ipconfig for consoles for new users to linux:

http://linuxberg.cesnet.cz/internet/preview/260121.html (remove any spaces)

or:

/sbin/ifconfig

If you know specifically which interface it is that is your Internet
connection like say eth0, you can run

/sbin/ifconfig eth0

hi,

im not sure if it is in Red Hat to, but in Unitet Linux Distributions or SuSE ones they are using the script ifup / ifdown etc. The command that you shows the status of your Network Card is ifstatus eth0 i.e if you are using a fix IP Adress. ifstatus-dhcp eth0 gives you the status if you are using an dhcp providen adress.
first you should look for your routes an your gateway with netstat -r -an and look if your DNS Server is reacheable in it otherwise add a route with route add -net xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx netmask yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy gw your.gateway for it. Please look if you have defined a firewallscript like iptable or ipchains (some Distributions do this automaticly) then stop this and test again.

hope this helps
