Linux Samba-LDAP-Windows Network

how to install and configuring samba+ldap on linux to work as domain server for a network with windows stations (WindowsXP), centralized secure logins, accounts, roaming profiles, using Fedora Core3 in the server, and tools for administration of samba-ldap on linux? packages needes, changes on configuration files, etc

Let me make sure I understand.

You want a Linux server to act as a DC and you want it to run Samba and LDAP?

In that case, LDAP will help with the centralized access and accounts.

Samba is will help with file sharing and such.

Is that what you need?

Samba alone will give you the functionality of a domain controller. However, it is not the AD type domain controller that you see in Windows 2000.

LDAP will act just as a directory. You can integrate both (look at the samba home page).

One note though, When you join a windows xp in a domain controlled by samba, you will have a problem (cannot find domain) once rebooted. This is due to the encryption of Windows XP. Samba site has a file that you can install in windows xp machine that will change that encryption and allow you to connect.
