Log-on Problem, how to fix it?

By nkhan2000 ·
I am in a organization that runs 24 hrs a day, and the day in split into 3 8-hour shifts. Some of the employees work from the central office. But I also have a few dozen telecommuters. The system I have supports only 1/3 of the workforce without suffering from performance degradations. Everyone is given a specific Shift. They don't change shifts. Some of the telecommuters are working "after hours" so that they can get there work done. The employees that work in the company itself can't work extra hours because I only have the needed amount of workstations necessary to run according to each shift. Each employee has to leave there workstation at the end of there shift so the next shift can log on. I need to find a way so that I can prevent the telecommuters from logging on beyond the regular shift. How do I do that?

You can specify (or limit) the hours a user can log on to and use the system, click the Hours button in the New User dialog box to display the Logon Hours dialog box. For example, you might want to limit logons after "normal" business hours for users who normally have no need to log on late at night. As a general security precaution, it's a good idea to limit the use of the server at night. This prevents users from exploring at night when they might feel more adventuresome.

The default enables the user to log on at any time, day or night, on any day of the week. To disallow logon during a specific period, select the period of time to disallow in the desired day(s); then click Disallow. To disallow the same hour on every day, click the gray bar at the top of the hour column to select that hour for the entire week; then click Disallow.

Good luck

Go into User Manager on the server, select a remote user and go into User Properties. Click on the Hours button at the bottom. There, you can control what hours that account is active, and what hours it's inactive.

Go into User Manager for Domains and set each of the telecommuters hours to the appropriate shift.

Then go to Policies/Account and check the checkbox:
Forcibly disconnect remote users from server when logon hours expire

Good luck and hope this helps. Have a good New Year.

You didn't mention what type of network, NT, 2K, or Netware, but if you are one of the beautiful people who run Novell

Start NWadmin32, double click on user or group, login restrictions, and you can dis-able logins by hour, day, etc.

Just to save time, wether it's NT or NW, create 3 groups, 1 for each of your shifts, and make the users members of that group, then you only have to enforce login restrictions 3 times ( once per group ).
