I have a single user account that intermetently displays the following error message at the windows logon screen when the user attempts to logon.User environment-Windows cannot log you on because your profile cannot be loaded. Check that you are connected to the network or your network is functioning correctly. This happens on three machines that are connected to the LAN via a dumb switch. I can logon using my user account to the same three machines and the logon issue resolves itself when I restart the machine. After the restart the user can logon without the error message. When I logon and the user cannot, I can ping the local host, the router, the gateway and a remote machine outside of our segment of the LAN. Suggestions? Thanks Roger

Default User deleted:

go to the PC and check under documents and settings, “default user” is there. If default user account is deleted this error occurs.

Either that or the hives are corrupt:

Or the PC hard-drive is failing
