Losing Documents Formating in Word

By techrepublic ·
Hello,
We have been having a problem in Microsoft Word with in the last few weeks. Someone can be typing and formating a document. When we goto save a documents for after we make changes sometimes the documents appears in code with squares. This happens to only a select few computers they where all installed from a administrative install.

Any idea why this is happening

Try restoring the template files (*.dot) from the computers that are working to the computers that aren't. (normal.dot is usually the default one). That's usually a good way to save yourself time and frustration with problems like that.

Check out the font of the sections which are coming in codes in the document. It could be that the particular font is not installed on the computers where the matter is appearing in codes
Best of Luck

I've been having the same problem and have spent hours trying to solve it. I think it's related to KMT software/Microsoft Office 2000 partner. They claim one has to update with their products because the security certificate has expired. When I try to disable macros on their warning box, I get: You have performed an illegal operation, and the program closes. I haven't been able to access my letterhead.dot invoices for months. I did read an article that said WORD locks numerous similar documents into Normal.dot. I've attempted to unlock them by renaming Normal.dot to Normal.old as was advised, but haven't succeeded.
