Lotus Notes to Word Mail Merge

By mslizny ·
I am working with a client who has Lotus Notes 4.5, and wants to bring names from the address book to a Word 97 Mail merge. A previous consultant created an Access file by exporting the names/addresses from Lotus Notes, but since this process doesn't provide a dynamic link, it would have to be re-done each time a mail merge is desired. As a result, the Access file has not been used again since it was created the first time.

Looking over the materials I have collected, I am leaning toward exporting the names/addresses to a Lotus 1-2-3 file, which is easily done from Notes, and then, since Excel reads 1-2-3 files, having the Word mail merge link to a converted-from-1-2-3 Excel file. Comments and/or suggestions would be appreciated.

Lotus Notes to Word Mail Merge

The way you are going is surley very simple and shouldn't be a big problem to deal with.

In addition I could think of additional ways:

1. Write addresses into a delimited ascii file using LotusScript

2. I think there is also an ODBC driver to access Lotus Notes DB's directly

3. Use OLE with LotusScript by launching a application like excel and push the data over there.

4. When you install Word there is an option supporintg Notes, maybe this does the trick.

5. By a product thatdoes it e.g. http://www.documentaal.com/
or http://www.swingsoftware.com

Hope it helps
