Souinds like Finder may be stuck, try a Option - Apple -Esc and Force Close finder. If that does not help, reboot and hold the left shift key down as it boots. That will turn off the extensions, if it works after that then you have an extnsion problem. You will have to trouble shoot that by turning the extensions on a few at at time.

Have you tried rebuilding the desktop by holding down the Apple & the option key?

If that doesn't work, you might need to pitch your desktop preferences to see if the display settings are creating this problem.

hope this helps.

I saw this recently. The Mac would boot but the mouse clicker didn't seem to work. The cursor would move all around but you couldn't select anything or pull down any menus.

I figured that there was a program that was stuck, so I hit the Command-Option-Esc key sequence to "force quit" the currently running program. The cool thing about this trick is the Mac will tell you the name of the program that was stuck - Web Sharing in my case. Once Web Sharing was force quit the Mac returned to normal.

As a temporary fix I turned off Web Sharing in the Extensions Manager. I'll figure out the problem later.

Hope this helps,

Doug

I would recommend upgrading from 8.5 to
8.6.1. This takes care of alot of glitches. You
can download the update at
apple.com/support.

1) Zapp the PRAM - restart and hold the
following keys down until it restarts 3 times.
Command + option + 'P' + 'R'
2) when you get it working update to 8.6.
Also, how did you reload? If you did a reinstall
you still may have corruption. Trya clean
install. If problems return after a day of
working, you probably have a virus.
