"Mail" vs "Mail and Fax" icon in Control

By lmike ·
How can a "Mail" application in Control Panel
be converted to a "Mail and Fax" application
(I've tried the obvious, such as installing fax
services) to remedy the following problem?

Some of my Win95 systems have a "Mail"
icon in Control Panelwhile others have a "Mail
and Fax" icon. Of note is that there is no
"Windows Messaging" option in Add/Remove
Programs under the Windows Setup tab.

When in an application such as Excel or Word
and attempting to generate an e-mail with the
current document as an attachment using the
"Send" option on the File menu, those systems
that have the "Mail" icon get an error: "T he
form required to view this message cannot be
displayed". Those with the "Mail and Fax" icon
work just fine; the blank e-mail message
comes up with the document attached.

This is in a Netware 5 environment with
GroupWise 5.5. and both the "a" and "B"
versions of Windows 95.

Of course, I would also like to know what I did
to cause this difference in the systems
messa

"Mail" vs "Mail and Fax" icon in Control

by Phil MCSE/MCP+I In reply to "Mail" vs "Mail and Fax" ...

You should get the "Mail and Fax" icon if the Microsoft fax software is installed. Below are instructions on doing so.

Installing Microsoft Fax
------------------------

To use Microsoft Fax, you must add the Microsoft Fax information service to a
Microsoft Exchange profile. Before you can add the Microsoft Fax information
service to a Microsoft Exchange profile, the Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft
Fax components and a fax modem must already be installed in Windows 95.

If the Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Fax components are not already installed
in Windows 95, follow these steps to install them:

1. In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.

2. Click the Windows Setup tab, click the Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Fax
check boxes to select them, and then click OK.

3. Proceed through the Inbox Setup Wizard, click Finish, and then click Yes to
restart your computer if you are prompted to do so.

NOTE: If you have not already installed a modem in Windows
