MCSA/MCSE Self study

By darren ·
Hi,

I'm currently preparing to start studying for the Microsoft exam Managing and maintaining a Microsoft windows server 2003 environment.

I purchased the self-paced training kit some time ago and unfortunately the server software which comes with the training kit has expired. Can I purchase Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 standard edition, and will this be all I need to complete the hands on labs throughout the MCSA/MCSE guide?

Any help with this will be much appreciated

Regards
Darren

You should be able to...

reinstall the OS again. I don't think that violates the license agreement. You just aren't allowed to put it into production or do anything to tamper with the expiration date.

well think you need Windows Server 2003

not SBS.

you need to be able to setup trusts as part of the practice exams, setup child domains. you need to do this with a couple of servers [2 or 3] and you can't do that with SBS version.

If it was me, I'd also setup sites where 2 or 3 of the servers are on different subnets so you should have a couple of routers and switches as well.

Another good option, you could also download an eval of VMWare workstation and use it for your MCSA/MCSE labs. That's a great tool, and more companies are virtualizing their infrastructure.
