Microsoft Exchange MTA Stacks Service

We are having problems connecting to our MS Exchange Server through MS Outlook 2003 the message we receive when we boot up the 2003 server running exchange is: At least one service or driver failed during system startup. Use Event Viewer to examine the event log for details.
So when we look at the Event Viewer this is the error message.

I went to the site and event id 7001 is not on there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check Services

I get the "At least one service or driver failed during system startup" every time I reboot any of my Server 2003 machines. This is usually caused when one service attempts to start before a service to which it depends on starts. So in general, I always make sure that all the automatic services have started after every reboot.

That said, I recommend that you ensure that the Microsoft Exchange Systems Attendant, Microsoft Exchange Routing Engine, Microsoft Exchange MTA Stacks, Microsoft Exchange Management, and Microsoft Exchange Information Store processes have started. If not try to start them.

Assuming they have started, that not be the issue. When you attempt to connect using outlook, what error messages are you receiving? Can you set up a profile on the machine?

Outlook Message

When I click on Outlook it says trying to connect for about 5 to 7 minutes than it says disconnected. We were able to connect to the Exchange server a few times. And one tech can still connect. There are only three of us who have Exchange accounts because were testing it before we go live and as of right now it doesn't work the way it should. And yes all services are running. I have installed the Outlook on the server and will create an account to see if it works from the server.

Ok let me make sure I understand

You are running Exchange (what version) and are attempting to connect with Outlook (what version). When you install Outlook, you are able to create the profile but when you attempt to open outlook after creating the profile you are getting a disconnected. Correct?

Rather than installing outlook on the server try this.

Open a browser on the server and goto

http://{exchangeserver name}/exchange/{your username}

This should open OWA. If you can open the mailbox this is a good indication that exchange is working properly and that it is a connection issue with the workstation.

We are running MS Exchange Standard Edition 2003 and Outlook 2003. We are able to create a profile using Outlook but than it won't connect. Also I can open the OWA.

Try this

close outlook on the workstation

run outlook /rpcdiag

This will open an additional window that will show you the communications that occur and to which server they occur. You should see it communicating with the DC and the Exchange server.

Are you using Cached mode? Just curious.

Yes we are using Cashe mode. I ran the command and we are hitting the DC and Exchange servers it just doesn't connect.

Possible problem with OST

Have you tried configuring the profile to not use cached mode?

If not try it. If it works then I recommend deleting the OST file from the computer, changing the profile back to cached mode and allowing Outlook to recreate the OST.

We are having the exact same issue with the MTA stacks not starting automatically. Did you ever solve this problem and if so what was the problem and what did you do?
