Which version of the media player are you using? I experienced the same problem when I upgraded to 7.0. The reason for the sound problems seems to be either not enough ram or not enough speed. (The system I experienced problems with is 300 Mghz with 48MB of RAM). To alleciate some of the RAM burden, try disabling all visualization plugins and turning off the "3D sound". This may help the sound become smoother.

I have had this problem as well. I switched to an outside player like Win Amp to see if I was having the same problem. I was so I replaced the sound card.

Hope this helps.
