Missing CD-ROM and CD Type Misinterpret

By iwako ·
I encounter this error sevral times with my clients computers with 815 and 440 chipset both for Intel mother.

Win2K recognized Atapi CDs as SCSI CDs. When I delete from device manager, it's gone forever, and no way to recover it whitout reinstalling Win2K Pro.

Is there any way to recover the CD driver? It should be with Win2K CD. CD is made by SONY.

Missing CD-ROM and CD Type Misinterpret

Re-installing the OS seems a bit drastic - have you tried using the Hardware Wizard? It should be able to locate, identify, and install the CD-ROM. If not, you can force it to skip the detection process and allow you to manually select your device.

I would also watch the BIOS boot to check that the motherboard is correctly identifying the ATAPI drive - a setting there may have come unscrewed. If it is detecting a SCSI drive, Windows may be relying on that information for its settings. If it continues to see a SCSI instead of ATAPI device, but the BIOS is correctly reporting ATAPI, check for an updated driver from Sony.
