missing .ini and vxd files

by RCOM In reply to missing .ini and vxd file ...

These are all networking files. The instuctions you've mentioned are for renaming the registry. There's steps that need to be completed after that. The files are supposed to be in the Windows System folder you can copy the files from another computer and save them there.

If you have your win95 CD and your network card driver disk, open device manager and delete the network card. After reboot the system will find the card again and reinstall it. The missing files will be restored durring theprocess.

The other thing to do is open control panel, select networking and remove any of the network settings except the network card. If you're connected to a network or there's settings there for internet connection go through the properties of everything and write it down. After reboot go back and restore the settings. The basic network features are;

Client=Client for Microsoft Networks
Adapter=Network Card=One for each protocol
Dialup Adapter=One for each protocol
Protocols=TCP/IP, NetBuei
Sharing=Files & Printer

If you're connected to other computers add or remove file & print sharing, the files will be restored. Or delete the client or one of the dialup adapters. The prompt may say your network settings are incomplete but go ahead and reboot. After reboot go back to network properties and the same incomplete network prompt may come back. Select add and choose client if that's what was removed. The choice will be Microsoft/Client For Microsoft Networks. The files will be restored at that time.

If you don't have the win95 CD and can get to a computer with same OS you can copy the files to floppy disks and save them to the windows system folder. As the installation of network components goes along and asks for the files enter A drive as the source.

Good luck
