Monitor displays lines

By justIT ·
I have a set of half inch horizontal stipes slowly moving from bottom to top of my 17" screen. This occurs at only one outlet. Noting is wrong with the monitor because when I move the monitor to another location it works fine. The problem appearsto be the frequency of the electric outlet. Is there any device or settings that will stabilize the frequency and fix the display?

Are there any major electrical boxes or devices in the area, such as an air conditioning unit or breaker box? If there is a breaker box or AC unit nearby, it could be causing the distortion. You can try to get building maintenance to check the outlet if you have such. If not and you are familiar with using them, you can use a multimeter to monitor the voltage. If you are not familiar with using a multimeter, do not try it. Hire an electrician to check out the outlet.....

Could be unshielded speakers are too close. The frequency of the monitor is adjusted in windows. Right click the desktop>properties>settings>advanced>monitor

I suspect that there is a major power conduit nearby.

Even 10 feet overhead, or buried in the floor, the magnetic field from the electricity flowing through the conduit is the most likely cause of this kind of line.

Try changing the orientation and position of the monitor on the work station.
If the intensity or width of the stripes change, then it is a magnetic field from a power source.

The only (low cost) way to deal with this problem, is to install mu-metal shielding around the power source, or the monitor itself.
Caution, make sure that the vents on the monitor are not blocked or restricted.

The only source I know of for mu-metal is Perfection Mica Corporation.

They offer a product called "Image Guard" that is a shielding enclosure for PC monitors.
