Or alternatively, plug your monitor into another PC and if it works, you know the problem is with your video card.

Follow the advice given and here's a few more things you might try. First is the computer coming on is the fans turning, sounds from the hard drive, indicator lights etc. Is there any or more than a one beep?

Reseat the cpu, video adapter and memory. If the video card is AGP it may have slipped up a bit in the back of the slot make sure it's fully seated. Try another video card.

Based upon this and your other question, odds are the issue is with your video card. If it is not a part of the motherboard, try removing it, cleaning the contacts and reseating it firmly. If that does not resolve the issue, replace the video card.
Good luck!

This is normal for some monitors.

What happens when you turn the computer on?

On the Compaq monitors I'm familiar with, when the power to the monitor is on but there is no video signal coming from the computer, the LED glows orange. When themonitor receives a video signal from the monitor, the LED will glow green. Also, when powersave kicks in the LED will blink green.
