mother board set

i have put together a few system . but this
one has stopped dead cold .
mother board abit vh6 370
cpu p3 coppermine 600eb 133
ram 128 ecc
nvidia tnt2 32 meg vedio card
maxtor 10 gig hard drive 7200rpm
the system booted up and i installed win98se
using win98se startup disk .
but when the system go s to start for the
frist time and windows is setting
i get this configmg error
then when i go to restart the system tell
me that i have himem.sys has detected unreliable xms memory at address 007cc00a
xms driver not installed
now what should i do ??????

1. check www.abit-usa.com for latest BIOS upgrade. You will need a DOS boot disk to install the upgrade BIOS. Do the install again.
if this was not the problem do 2.

2. Try changing the memory - and try the installation again.

3. Try Windows 95 or 98 first edition and see if you get the problem. Could be corrupted installation files

4. Check BIOS for memory settings that match your CPU

5. Try just a simple working VGA or SVGA card to see if video memory is causing the problem

ok changed the ram to pc100 and the system seem to be fine. thanks for the info

Hi!

The memory test in himem.sys is very unreliable, so do this.

Edit config.sys and change the line with himem.sys to look something like this:
device=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS /TESTMEM:OFF

It's the /TESTMEM:OFF the is important it turns off the memory test that himem.sys uses.

tryed this before changing ram and no luck
but thanks any way i will keep this in mind

You are using ecc memory and the memory is not very stable,check the the mother board specs and how to intergrate using the ecc memory with it,the bios reacts wierd to this type of memory,locate the driver from another machine at www.windrivers.com and update the bios.

thanks for the site , found info that was
helpful , the fix was to change the ram
to pc100 . i did how ever try the same parts in a gigabyte and same problem did happen and i tryed changing the ram and the proble m was still there but again thanks for the info
