Move location of locally cached profiles

By ldavis ·
I am trying to move the location of locally cached profiles, due to disk space issue. I followed instructions from microsoft support page Q214470. However after making the changed to the registry and rebooting the server I signed on and the profile was created again in the local drive and the registry reverted back to the original
%SystemRoot% instead of the new drive. Has anyone had any luck move cached profiles?

I sugest that you create a directory name
profiles in the new drive and copy the old profile directory to the new one than share it,and in the
users property sheet profile tab write down the path to the profile \\computername/profiles/%username%
the %SystemRoot%/profile is the defalt location if there is no other profiles directory

To redirect profiles to a different partition do the following:

1)Create a temporary user with local administrator rights.

2)Log in as this user and start up regedit.

3)Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList and change the Value ProfilesDirectory so that
it points to the desired drive. eg: d:\Documents and Settings

4)Within the profile list key locate the administrator's entry and change
it's Profile Image path to the desired drive.

5)Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
\Explorer\Shell Folders and change the REG_SZ values to point the All Users
folders to the desired drive.

6)Create a Documents and settings and folders folder on the desired drive
and copy all of the profiles except the temporary one from the c: drive to
their new location.

7)Reboot the machine, delete the temporary user and the documents and
settings folder on c: - Voila all current and new profiles are redirected to
the new drive.
