Moving a client’s Outlook to a new compu

    Locked

    by sdiamond ·

I have inherited a situation in which I am running exchange server 5.5 in a mixed platform environment mostly Mac with a mix of pc’s (95, 98, NT) I recently needed to move a client to a new Powermac (B&W) and reinstall her Outlook for exchange client. I moved all the files over to the new machine and installed a new copy of outlook 97. Now she can’t get to all of the e-mail addresses in her address book nor can she connect to her personal folders. She can however send and receive e-mail. I would love some suggestions and perhaps a recommendation to an on-line resource that could help me become more comfortable with outlook.

    TIA

    Stan

Make sure you have the personal address book selected as a Mail Service (at least what they call it on pc). Addressbox is a *.PAB file, might need to change where it is pointing to get old addressbook.

have you still got the old Mac and the personal folders?
If so – remove the new PSTs on the MAC. Then on the original MAC copy the PAB (address Book)to a Contacts folder and the Personal Folders in new Folders in the Inbox (i.e everything on the Exchange Server).
Go back to the new MAC and reverse the process but create new PST and PAB files.
Long winded but that way the equivalent of registry settings (as used by a PC) will be created on the MAC.

Answer 3 is correct – no matter what type of machine, you have to have their orginal pab and pst files. Copy them to the new machine, and make sure under properties of Outlook that the personal folders and personal address book point to the correctpab and pst files.

No 1. Try and get all your users to use the contacts in outlook instead of the PAB , then when this needs to be doen, you just select all folders when you export to a pst file from outlook and once setup on the new pc you import that pst file. End of story.

For the PAB and the adresses I got a link to a app that exports adresses from Lockergnome’s mailing list http://www.lockergnome.com and the util called Wabout3L.exe is done by Connected software found at URL http://www.empire.net/~level/Connected.html
