MS Word Missing Toolbars

By pclarke ·
My MS Word 2000 toolbars are missing. I tried reinstalling MS Word and then the entire office suite but with no effect. I used help and only found this out. I can get the customize options on screen but the toolbars section only has three entries. How can I correct this ?

I don't use Office2000.
About reinstall: first deinstall and after that reinstall with custom options where you can sellect all options you need. For Office97 exists an eraser which clean system and registry. I think that also exist eraser2000.

There are several possible answers. The most likely is that you need to close Word, rename the file normal.dot, and then restart Word.

If that does not work follow the procedures outlined in this article:

Nothing that complicated, we hope.

Start Word.
Bring up the toolbars section.
There should be a reset button. Click it.
There should be a dropdown box with at least one choice - normal.dot. Choose it. (if that isn't there, THEN it gets complicated. <g&gt
You should have a list of toolbars, many of which are checked. Click the ok button.
Hopefully, you are good to go after that.

If you didn't have normal.dot or this still didn't restore your toolbars, bring up the customize options again and click on the Commands tab. You can drag and drop the commands as needed from there. This is a pain, but it works, assuming your installation of word is not corrupt.

Locate and rename Normal.dot.
Also look at:
