MSN Folder eats too much HD space

By RanEd ·
My MSN folder in the Program Files directory holds 13 Gb of hard drive space.

When I open the folder all that is there is a shortcut file "MSN 8" which targets msnCoreFiles\msn6.exe.

I've been losing hard drive space like crazy.
"Find Junk Files" freeware identified the files as "msncorefiles.promo".

What are these files and why are they eating so much hard drive space does anyone know?

Any help appriciated!

P.S. I have Windows XP Home

Hi,

Firstly I would go to my folders options and set it so that hidden files are shown, then you may see more files in the MSN folder.

Thanks Ozi,

But I have folder options set to show hidden and still all I see is the short cut "MSN 8". When I look at its properties it point to the following target: "C:\Program Files\MSN\MSNCoreFiles\msn6.exe"

And it still is taking up 13 Gb??

Run a check disk utility to make sure that you are getting and accurate respnose.
Also get check for virus. the Trend Micro web site will check it if you don't have AV installed

have you cleaned your temp internet files, cookies and history?
here is a link for EasyCleaner by ToniArts.
it cleans the registry, find duplicates files, remove unnecssary files/folders, clears temp internet files, clears cookies, clears history, remove MRU

http://www.toniarts.com

I have been using it for over 3 years with no problems from it.

good luck

I have answered my own question:

Someone on another tech help site mentioned that the "MsnCorefiles" had something to do with an automatic update.

So I decided to update to the latest version MSN 9. After doing this update everything is back to normal. My MSN folder only takes up 74 Mb! Much better now!
