MSSQL job/replication monitoring

By shdowflare ·
Hello,

I'm looking for a reliable way to monitor SQL Server transactional replication as well as SQL Agent jobs. We have many servers using replication (and many SQL jobs), and it's never fun when users or developers call and say jobs or replication aren't running.

Does anyone have any useful ways to monitor these things?

Thanks in advance,
Brian

Look at Spotlight on SQL server. www.quest.com. Its a great product, and offer a free full working demo.

If you buy, send me a msg. I don't know the sales structure, but the rep I work with is a very good guy, and I would be happy to point some business his way.

Ad hoc

Hi,

We own Spotlight on SQL already and it looks to be an ad-hoc monitoring tool. How useful is it for replication and scheduled task notifications?

Thanks
Brian

One more Job

Have a job/jobs running in the server to check for job failures and even logs.

Figured it out!

I use SiteScope (our monitoring tool) to watch the Event Viewer Application Log for SQLSERVERAGENT:208 messages. I had to make sure all SQL jobs (including those run by the replication agents) were configured to write to the Event Viewer on failure.

Thanks for the help.
