Multiple A recrds or A record updating??

By aaratt ·
Hello, I have been working on putting together a BGP connection. There has got to be a less massive way of getting a redundant connection to our web server.

There is a site out there called Zoneedit.com that pings your main A Records and if it is ever not available, then it updates your A Record globaly, to a secondary IP. They say it takes 5 minutes to make all the changes. I don't know why ISP's don't offer this as a package. We could be saving large quantities of public IP's since most IP's only will setup BGP sessions with entire Class C's, and you may only need 4-20 ip's. Quite a waste!

It seems too that you should be able to put preferences on multiple A Records like you can on MX Records. But I have never seen more than one Arecord out there for most sites. Yahoo.com being the exception. How do they do it?

If you are familiuar with this or have tried to do something similar to this yourself, I would appreciate hearing what you did.

THanks a bunch!
Alex
