My mouse sporadically double clicks when I press it only once

    by jaradthescot ·

I have had Windows 7 since October, and soon after I got it I had an issue with my mouse. It was randomly acting as if I double clicked when I would only click once (I would test this on my desktop by slowly single clicking an icon once every 10 seconds, and approximately every other time it would open the folder). This went on for a few weeks before it became unbearably irritating/inconvenient. I went and bought a new mouse and all was well… for a few months. Just a couple weeks ago it started again with my new mouse. Sometimes it works perfectly fine, other times it will double click 90% of my single clicks, meaning every time I want to minimise or close a window I have to make sure that I don’t want to press any buttons behind it (Aero peek is a godsend for this problem). If I can’t risk a double click, I have to figure out a keyboard shortcut. It’s unbelievably annoying and I don’t know what to do. I’d get a new mouse, but then it will likely happen again, unless I’m just horribly unlucky with mouses/mice. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you so much. I feel like I’m going insane.
