my pc is stuck in setup mode

By anansiman ·
I tried to re-install win XP on an e-machine, but the files on the disc was corrupted. I got another disc but the computer want to continue setup from the original disc. How do i get the pc to reset itself and accept the new windows disc to start setup?

Try this out...

Put in the Windows disk and then do a FULL shutdown, wait 15 seconds and then bootup. As long as your cd/dvd drive is bootable as the first drive you should be fine.

CD Boot

Make sure the computer is booting from the CD, not from the hard drive.

You may need to adjust the BIOS options to make the CD the first boot device

Might want to consider starting over

You probably hit a spot where most of the installation files are on the hard drive and installation is continuing from where you left off. If you used an XP SP3 CD and you are trying to continue with a different version, i.e. XP SP2 the error will occur.
