my system cant ping itself,but pings other system

i have one system A that is connected to lan,
system A itself not pinging, but this system can ping other systems like systemB, and see the share folders also.
systemB cannot communicate to system A.
my problem is , system A is showing in network, but not pinging itself, and others also cannot ping system A.
please help me---

by IP address or machine name? Maybe DNS is pointing to wrong IP address.

start with the basics

Double-check the IP settings on each system (netmask, ip address, DNS and or WINS, LMHOSTS or HOST file, etc.) Also, what NOS are you using (Windows Server 2000, 2003, Linux, etc.)?
