NAV will not install

By total geek ·
Hi,

I have a computer that had the BugBear virus. Unfortunately, the user did not have anti-virus software loaded. I have used the BugBear removal tool from teh Symantec site which told me that there were two files infected and that it had successfully removed them. I then went on to install Norton's Internet Security 2000. It would get to a particular part in the install and then just disappear. I have tried many times now to install the program to no avail.
Can anyone please tell me why I cannot load the software on? It is frustrating because I want to do a complete scan of the pc to check for viruses.

Look forward to a response.

Mil

Sounds like you still have a virus of some kind, many of which keep you from installing AV ware - especially Norton. To fix it, you'll need to run a full scan on the machine, either online or from a disk. Some versions of Norton will create a scan disk from the CD - check the version you have.

You might want to do the free online scan using Trend's AV software:

Or download the DOS version and run from DOS.

Sounds like you still have a virus lingering... which OS are you using?

Try the Symantec Online scan. It seems like you still have a virus. The Klez virus won't let you install the program.
Here is the link

From personal experience with klez and other viruses, after cleaning the virus out of your system and you still cannot install software, my conclusion is that certain windows files were corrupted or renamed. I have found the quickest solution was toreinstall operating system to same directory, reinstalling drivers and software (all data will be safe)
You can **** around for hours repairing certain files or replacing them when reinstalling them is quicker.
Good luck!

Try installing NAV in safe mode. You may have to copy the install files to your C drive (C:\Temp) before doing this, as booting up in safe mode doesn't always give you CD ROM support. Hope this helps.
