You shouldn’t need a driver for the CD drive for W98. The driver disks that come with CD drives are for DOS mode support.
You may need to update the IDE bus driver for the motherboard in order for W98 to set up the drive properly.
If you don’t know who made your motherboard, or chipset, go to http://www.motherboards.org and use the tools to identify your board.
They have links to the appropriate web sites for drivers.
You also may need to update the ASPI layer.
Before updating the ASPI layer, check with the mfg of your CD writing software to assure that you don’t have conflicts.
I know of 2 different ASPI update files, 1 from Apdaptec, and one from Microsoft.
Choose 1 or the other.
In order to use the drive to write CDs, you need asoftware package.
Most of the peers on TR recommend Nero.
I have been happy with Adaptec/Roxio EasyCD Creator.
There are also several “less” popular packages out there.
If after installing the software, it does not recognize your drive, you need to check for software updates at their web site.
