Need to reboot three times
My computer needs to be rebooted three times before I am able to get to my desktop. ie: I add a hardware or software and windows says to reboot, I reboot and then it locks the keyboard for the first two attemps, then on the third it boots just fine. I have uninstalled Windows 98 and reinstalled it, I have downloaded the updates for 98 no success. Can anyone please help?

When you boot your computer it usually shows, just for a brief moment, the different devices (resources) on your motherboard. Try pushing the pausebutton on your keyboard so you can see if there are resources sharing an Interrupt (IRQ). This usuallyalso can be seen when you go to your controlpanel and System and devices installed on the computer. If you do have some interrupts shared, usually either the NIC if you got one or your multimedia card.

Further if this does not give any answers try using your drwatson from Start->Run to see if you've got some other stuff giving you headaches.

Good luck

PS. Make sure you've got your BIOS settings correctly set up. Such as PNP OS installed: Yes Resources controlled by: Auto (ESCD)

You haven't said if you've customized the virtual memory, or caching, as this sounds like they are causing an error. But , considering you tech points, you are not a newbie, so I will cut to the chase, use the scanreg /fix option , and then the scanreg /opt , after you do this, then it's loaded configuration of the third party software causing a conflict likely, as if you install before another software product of the same genrie (Third party) they will attept to control the low level operations if hovering, but in this case they are attempting to load at the same time. There is another possibility, and it's your sound card got a wrong cue when it all started , all you have to do is remove the start sound, and the shutdown sound, and runit for a while, as it's causing the drivers to load wrong. I had these problems, and it may or maynot be the problem. Check the device manager and see if something is amiss there too, not to worry, everyone misses a step now and again.
Luck
