Neetware 5 sp6a - Now losing connections

HELP!!!!

Guys'n'gals,
I've got a Netware 5.0 server that has recently been upgraded to SP6a. Now I'm getting users reporting inability to save to their drives that are mapped to the data: volume. Office 97 users are getting messages telling them there could be a "network or file permission error" when trying to save as the same document but change the name and it let's them save, other users will get an access denied to their drive or just "hang" on accessing the drive. Some users havereported problems printing. I have checked network adapter settings, configured to use latest ce100b.lan rather than e100b.lan, have performed local DSREPAIR, have installed latest revision of NDPS and performed VREPAIR on all drives. The server DID abend on Tuesday with a server-5.0-4631 [nMID=1001c]. According to Novell this is usually a problem with NDPS but the update hasn't helped. It's also strange that before the sp6a it didn't happen.

Have you checked the error log for the server? I ask because I have seen a problem similar to this, and the cause was the licenses were corrupted. This caused unexpected results of users sometimes having access to certain resources, then losing them. Another couple of things to check are (version of netware client you are using) and there is also a problem with setting current connections to 1. (though that doesn't seem on point)

Heres the answer you have a lot of work to do.
We ran into this same problem after 6a it turns out that all office 97 editions(professional, small business and home require to be upgraded to SR-2A If you check I bet most of them causing issues are SR-1). If you move to Office 2000 this issue is non existant. Also make sure netware client is version 3.2 or better. It's not a Netware issue. It's a Microsoft issue see Q Document OFF97: List of Fixed Problems in Office 97 for Windows, SR-2 [Q151020]

D,

Currently we are running netware 5.0 spk 6a with client 3.2 for 98, client 4.6 nt, and client 4.83 for 2K. Office 2000 no problem, office 97 issues as described. All clients have the appropriate patches from Novell. I can Only give you what has worked for us. It created productivity issues for us also which forced the upgrade.

Both of the answers are correct. Do you get any errors on login? Do you get the results box with no errors in mapping? I would remove the licenses and reinstall them first. We had problems with our licenses files when applying service packs. That should get you up and running, then you can update to the latest SR and patches for Office 97.

Update. On uninstalling sp6a the problem goes away. The SR2 install for office 97 masks but doesn't fix the problem. The 97 users are the first to see the problem but after installing sr2 or off2k they seem to be ok. Thing is, later on then it hits everyone i.e, the problem compounds and gets worse the longer you leave it to the point where you'll log in and can't even see all the directories in the data volume. Worst thing is I can't recreate the problem to fix it without getting into downtime issues with the users. Currently running a completely unpatched 5.0 server and I want to get it patched asap! Any more helpful hints? Might be a bit of work involved for anyone that is based in London and wants it...
