the problem described is to global.
assuming it's your not isp who's playing games.

from a software standpoint I recomend the following.
update antivirus
use xp and sp2 and use the firewall.
or use a personal firewall to check what programs are requiring access to the internet.
go to windowsupdate.com and download the latest patches for windows.

install adaware and spybot search and destroy to get rid of spyware on your system.

running xp sp2 patched, not the problem
can't be isp because it connects only after a restart which means there probly something with the configureation i think but don't know what or why.

and spyware ?

change the network card !!
for certain it's not network configuration settings, because those work or do not work right away.

something is slowing you down.
which can be virus, spyware or simply a bad nic

i find it hard to beleive that spyware has such wierd thing that it let's the everything run ok until about lets say 7 hours and then it slows down to very slow (btw on icq when it happens i can receive messages but i can't answer)
then it disconnects and doesn't let me connect to the net it would be to wierd (btw it gives me some error like vpn unreachable)

Well, how are you connecting? dialup, DSL, direct to modem, router?

Leopold told your right. Almost all slowdown problems can be blamed on sypware. Check your running processes, Ctrl>Alt>Del. In the Processes tab, sort by CPU%. Some browser plug-ins let you see your avail memory to Windows.

Other than that, it's got to be hardware somewhere. If you use a SOHO router, be advised they do not last forever. They do slow down usually before they fail. I had to replace my Linksys BEFSX41 a few months ago after about 2 years. It felt like it was on dialup again.

If it recently started happening restore back to a date before this started happening.

Use task manager to see what's running. Report back with anything that seems unusual. Or you can stop the service to see. Some of the services will not stop nd others will cause the system to reboot. Is this just the internet or is everything slow. How does everything else respond. It's a stab but this may be heat related so check your cooling fans and **** off dust.

Event viewer may have info on what happened based on the time of the slowdown.

Start, run, MSCONFIG what loads at boot. Uncheck all but what's needed and test by re-checking one at a time until the problem occurs.

When its running slow use the netstat command to see whats connecting. Open command and type netstat /? to see the choices.

Clear browser cache (temp internet files) regularly and delete all .tmp files. Set your allowable cache size to the lowest setting and clear history and cookies.

Check in C;\windows\downloaded programs files right click and remove things. They will reinstall if you need them again.

When it slows down try changing the firewall to block everything for a few minutes then re-allow the regular connections.

Follow advice on spyware and virus checking. Don't forget if virus related that the repair feature needs to be disabled.

Your router may be getting hit with a denial of service attack (DOS attack). In other words packets of data to lock the router. So try re-starting it to isolate if its really the PC that's dropping the connection. Update the firmware for your router especially if linksys.

You can also remove and reinstall nic and networking features this will rebulid the winsock.

i always do the msconfig thing and all the others
the only thing which has logic in what you said maybe a dos attacks, but who needs it? i don't run a server or something

Are you on a cable modem? Sometimes a node can get so saturated, dial-up is faster. When you reboot, the modem may release the IP, then renew another. It could get you a faster connection until it becomes saturated again. Do you notice a pattern? Like around four to five pm, when everyone gets home from work/school?

yes it does have some pattern sometimes 1 or 2 times a day
but it worked ok more than a year, why now?
