Traffic Management

by Koerper In reply to net monitoring tool

A firewall/proxy solution like SurfControl (http://surfcontrol.com/) would probably help you a lot. You can block downloads of certain file types (e.g. exe or mpeg) as well as unnecessary ports and protocols used by streaming media based on usernames and group memberships. Here's a blurb from SurfControl's web site:

-Less spam entering your network
-Filtering of porn and inappropriate material reduces the risk of legal liability
-Viruses are caught at the server level before they reach employees
-Spyware is stopped and cleaned up quickly and easily
-Regulation of downloadable media, recreational surfing, instant messaging, peer-to-peer programs and gaming means more productive network and staff
-Management of outgoing e-mail prevents confidential information from leaving your organization

Help and Alternatives

by Koerper In reply to alternative of surf contr ...

SurfControl was installed by someone else at our company, so I can't help with that. I suggest calling their tech support line. The number should be on their web site.

As for alternatives, if you google "network traffic control" you should find something.

Agreed.

Just to echo JC...

After doing an exhaustive comparison a few months ago for my company in regards to this, I found SurfControl to be cost efficient, easy to implement and manage, and the customer support I got from them was second to none.

If you would like, I can provide you with my contact at SurfControl. Just PM me.
