Netscape doesn't like TechRepublic

By curlergirl ·
Netscape 4.61 on Win2K Pro WS and on WinNT4.0 are having the same problem. After a while - maybe a few days or so between reboots - Netscape will start "freezing" while downloading a page. The status bar usually says either "Reading file: Done" or"Document: Done", and the icon is animated as though it is downloading, but the page is blank. I can leave it sitting there for many minutes with nothing happening. Interestingly, this usually happens only with the TechRepublic web site - I can browse most other web sites with no problem while it still refuses to download techrepublic.com. Rebooting the system fixes it. Any ideas?

Happened to me as well. Use IE5. It is way better than netscape, faster and I have yet to come across a site that it cannot load. I have tried the techrepublic site on a Monster of a machine (PIII500, 1GHz RAM with red hat 6.2) The machine is a Squid proxy server and still netscape doesnt fully load some pages. I definately recommend IE5, (although previous versions were crap).

My advice is, change browsers, for your own well being.

Regards,

Nicholas.

Sorry - I don't like IE for other reasons, and I'm not about to change browsers and have to duplicate my (very valuable) bookmarks file.

Not an answer, just more problem. I am running Win NT 4.0 SP4, Netscape 7.3 (I think). Same thing happens to me. Sometimes it will release, sometimes not. I click X on the window (all if multiple). Then run Task Manager, find and terminat Netscape in Processes. Rerunning usually works find. Sometimes does this 3-4 times in a 1-2 hour session.

I DON'T LIKE IE. Prefer Netscape. Think sites should test all their pages so that they work with both. If I could reasonably boycott sites that don't, I would. Lo

I think TechRepublic is working on these problems - but it doesn't help us NOW, does it?!

My IE 5 on Win98 locks up on MSN every couple days. I guess I should switch to Linux/Netscape? Guess what... The problem is your O/S not the application. As Sun aptly put it... "The only place for 65,000 bugs is in the rain forest".

Guess what. . .90% of the users I support are on WinNT, so I'm not about to change OS's! My advice to LinuxHeads - get out of your Ivory Tower and join the REAL world where business people have to get WP and accounting apps to work every day...

Click on the START button and click on Netscape Smartupdate to V4.73, that might fix some of your problems.

Thanks - I think I'll try it, but without too much hope!
