Netware and Pegasus Email

By Lashman ·
My department is having difficulty with our email client running over a Novell WAN. We have on the order of 15-20 Novell servers running versions 4.11 and 5.0 connected by T-1 lines to about 10 locations. We have a total of about 1000 users (we will begrowing to over 3500 in the next year). We are using Pegasus 3.11 on Win95 systems. The NDS feature is running on the servers and desktop and we are not running Mercury.

Here is the problem: when we search for users via the local user lookup, we occasionally get all the users meeting the search criteria, but often we get incomplete results.

If you have a medium to large WAN and use Pegasus, I would be interested in hearing from you. Thanks.

As far as I can remember from the previous version it's a memory problem in Win95. Switching to NT4.0 solved my problem. Easier said then done/executed but this was the only aswer I got from a bunch of other users at www.ngn.nl (one of the larger usergroups for networks)

I assume that you are using an up-to-date Novell client? When you "get all the users meeting the search criteria, but often we get incomplete results" is this with a single machine and user account? If you are not using a fairly recent Novell-suppliedNetWare client, I would recommend loading it on a machine before further testing as the client end is the most likely place for this error to originate. Client okay? Try running Pegasus as the first application after booting your Win95 PC. Win9x resource management sometimes manifests itself in this manner as well -- if you have access to an NT workstation, try that to see if it is the OS that is causing your problem.

We have had to solve our Pegasus/Novell problems by running Pegasus local. Also, if you have been upgrading from older versions, you will have to do some cleanup work in difference accounts, depending on what the new 3.11 verison picks up.

I am presuming two things on your question, one is that in the instances where you are getting partial results is from the same user that you are getting full results, and that this same user is not operating on a paired down context. This user will see all the possible users available to his context, and then is getting variable amounts in the search lists.

if the above conditions are true, installing pegasus to the workstation, and removing the connection to the networked version.
