    Network Connectivity

    Locked

    by mbmckeever ·

    Good Day,
I manage a small network, less than 150 workstations, two new IBM x-Series Windows 2003 Servers, 6 HP3500 switches over two locations. the locations are connected by a municipal FibreOptic Network. This network is less than one month old but already there are instances of various workstations losing connection to the main DC which is also serving as a file server that the staff keep their files on in their home directories which are defined with AD. Also, even when the users log on, it can take serveral minutes and even then, it is not assured that the logon will be successful. SOmetimes, only the wallpaper shows up, necessitating a Restart.

Any advice on where and what to look for would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Mike

log in slow? can’t find DNS

look to your DNS server if users are experiencing slow logons. Cliens looking for a DC will query DNS. Check your DHCP configuration to ensure it’s handing out the proper options.

        All IPs are Static

Thanks for the suggestion. However, all the devices on the network have Static IPs. There is less than 150 so it is reasonable for me to manage.
