hi i have 2 computers, they had a perfect network going. File sharing and all, then after awhile(dunno when exactly) 1 of the computers does this-- I plug the ethernet wire in, it shows the connecting symbol on bottom left. Then says " Aquiring network address" for a min then says "limited or no connectivity" with no packets recieved. Just a couple sent. EH! what do i do? i tried installing the network driver again. same thing again. help me please!

A couple of tips

by Toivo Talikka In reply to NETWORK HELP!!!! FAST!!! ...

If you disconnect the ethernet cable and plug it back in, the chances are that Windows has decided that it needs to do something and it may have changed the status of the network connection to disabled, or decided to use an internal IP address starting with 169. Check the settings from the Support tab of the Local Area Connection Status window, or go to the command prompt and type in ipconfig /all.

If the ip address starts with 169, change the address back to what it was, or if you were using DHCP, right click the Local Area Connection icon and disable it, allocate a proper fixed IP address first and then change it back to DHCP and enable the Local Area Connection.

If the above scenario has happened, you may want to check the network cable and the switch you are using for any faults.

network

I assume this is for blackhawk entertainment so when you get the message limited or no connectivity, that means that your network card is not obtaining an address from a DHCP server [which issues you and address].

Need more information such as what do you connect the network cable to [other than the computer itself?

Some ideas

by 3xp3rt In reply to NETWORK HELP!!!! FAST!!! ...

What you described it?s mean your network card try to obtain the IP address from a DHCP server, because it?s set to obtain automatically. For two computers I don?t believe that is the right settings. So you must change these settings and add the proper values (IP address, Net Mask default Gateway and DNS) An other problem what can be the incorrect speed. Try to modify the Nic?s speed to different values.

Try static ip address

Assign a static IP address on the computer that has the problem.
Make sure it has the same subnet mask and default gateway and DNS as the other computer.

Winsock Perhaps

Download and run this utility. Note that it will reset connection to DHCP, so you will need to enter address info if using a static IP address.
