Network Neighborhood thru network Subnet

By colin1 ·
I am putting in a new network which will be broken down into different subnets for different locations
eg Site 1 - 192.1.1.1
Site 2 - 192.1.2.1
Site 3 - 192.1.3.1
Each location will be connected via an ACT router.

When I click on network neighborhood when on a PC at Site 2 I cannot see any of the PCs at
Site 1 or Site 3.

Is there anyway I can configure the network so i can see all PCs no matter what subnet I am on.

Thanks

This is a network browsing issue. Are you using WINS?? That would resolved the problem. If your using DHCP, have it assign the address of the WINS server. If you are not using WINS, use LMHOST files and copy them down to clients in the logon script.Hope this helps,
Joe

Goto your WINS Manager and give in the range of your IP's -> these are Static Mappings.
Greetings.

Well this is probably the answer. You need to change your subnet mask so that each system can see the other ..i.e. if you want 192.1.1.1 to see 192.1.2.1 you need a subnet mask of at least 255.255.254.0 however you have 3 subnets so you will need toset your subnet masks on all three systems too...255.255.253.0 and you will need to set the default gateway to your routers or firewalls Address...good luck

WINS would help with your problem. Its sounds like you have 3 master browsers operating on their respective subnets. The master browser sends its list to backup browser. The clients then ask the backup browser for the browser list. WINS will help merge the multiple browsers.
