Networked printer does not appear

By c_cee ·
In this office we have four computers and one occasional laptop connected to the network. This is setup with a switch that connects every device that runs on the network. The problem I have is that every other computer in the office can connect to this printer via the IP address. When I try to add this printer it does not recoagnise the port I have specified (which works on the other PCs).The printer is a HP Deskjet 810c (drivers are installed correctly).
Does anyone have any idea why this is? and how I can fix it?

Can you map to the printer?
Try connecting direct to printer, is it seen?
If not check the Bios, some notebooks need the
port to be enabled & set to correct Setting
(if parallel - ECP, EPP etc).

A few hints that may point you in the right direction.

Are the computers connected in a peer-to-peer mode getting their IP addresses via DHCP? Can all of the PCs see each other in the Network Neighborhood? Is the network configuration of the laptop setup for workgroup or domain? In DOS mode on each of the PCs, if you run the command IPCONFIG, does each (including the printer) have a unique IP address in the same range of numbers? Can you ping the IP address of the printer? What operating system is each PC running on? Hope this gives you some clues as to your problem area.
