Network.Error-Message

By thejourney7 ·
I am receiving-Network.error: The Netware-compatible shell is not available. I am getting this when I boot up the PC. When I click "OK" it allows me to go on. Why is this error occuring and step by step what do I need to do to fix it. This is a home PC, stand-alone with win98 4.10, Internet Explorer 5.5.

Network.Error-Message

You are probably getting that message because that machine had installed in it a piece of software known as "Novell Client [Workstation Shell] for Netware" that manages the connection to Netware file servers.

Go to Control Panel, Network icon, open it and remove the items that read "Novell Client ..." .

If you encounter a line that reads "Microsoft Client for Netware", remove it also, as it is the Microsoft clone client for accessing Novell Netware file servers.

You should also remove the lines that read "IPX ..." as this is the default protocol for the Novell Netware file server and are not typically used in a home environment.

Hope that helps,
Joao

NetWare has a utility that will completely remove Client32. This utility is located in the installation directory of Client32 under Admin. The file name is unc32.exe. If you are unable to locate this file on the computer, you may download a current client from Novell, extract it and uninstall the client from the admin folder of the extraction.
