Networking Linux

By kgtech1 ·
Hello I just got Mandrake Linux 7.1, and I have it as a dual boot with Windows98se, but how can i configure linux to work on a LAN. I have DSL, and I have three computers internet sharing(one usng WinME, and two using Win98se), using a Linksys router. What I want to do is put Linux on the netowrk to. Just needs some guidance. thank you

If you are using a Windows domain or workgroup I would suggest using SAMBA. You can use that to share files and services on a Windows Network. Find the SWAT program and install it, then you'll have a GUI through a web-browser (http://localhost:901) to configure SAMBA. Otherwise all configurations are in the smb.conf file. You can also either use a dsl router/gateway, use linux as a gateway, or just connect using a program like Roaring Penguins PPPOE client (www.roaringpenguin.com) to connect directly to your DSL. Good luck and have fun.
