networking problem

By pchlp ·
I have a client that has 10 desktop computers and and 5 laptop. They are connected to a 24 port hub and a router that gives them access to the Internet. The office manager wants to plug in a wireless router to one of the wall rj45 plugs and use wireless card for some of the laptops.
My questions is, will it work? Should this situation have a 24 port router?

In theory, that should work, but I had problems getting my MS authentication to work between the wireless network and the wired one and didn't have time to figure it out. BTW, if you mean a 24 port wireless router, then yes, that would definately work since you'd be on the same network. Either way, you'll want to do some configuration to ensure you lockdown the wireless access point. WEP is ridiculously unsecure, so I'd recommend allowing only certain MAC addresses, even this will require manual updates. I'd also plug the router directly into the hub via a crossover cable.
